Ronny competed in the 1968 Lee Talent Show as a stand-up comic.  He became a Nashville-based songwriter and later a San Antonio local music scene writer for the newspaper.

From Gus Wanner, of the local music shop GuitarTex on McCullough,  who was one of Ron's close daily friends, about our classmate's contributions to the printed-word aspects of music scenes in San Antonio and beyond. ________________________________________________________________________

If for nothing else Ronald Lee Young should be remembered as a Prometheus of Local Letters. Before Ron, there was no San Antonio Alternative Press let alone locally generated music criticism that addressed the music and tastes of the Younger Generation, the Rock and Rollers. Ron was not only a Comic and a Songwriter but also the founder of  “It's Only Rock and Roll”, San Antonio's first magazine dedicated to the local music scene. From this cradle,  San Antonio, Tx not only gained a local perspective of what we had available but also larger picture of the musical outside world as this was the spawning grounds of what would be the nucleus for San Antonio Music Criticism for the next 25 years as the various writers moved on to The San Antonio Light, The Express-News and the Current.
Ron was not only a good writer but also a brilliant raconteur with memories to spare concerning artists as diverse as Lou Reed, Doug Sahm, Augie Meyers,  Tupper Saussy and Iggy Pop. His reminiscences of the various aspects of his life made for fine conversations on our morning walks. His dissection of the corporate machine that is Nashville,Tn remains one of my most cherished memories as he laid bare the various myths and lies of the “Music City”. Ronald Lee Young was a man who went beyond the simple boundaries of “where did you go to High School” and gained that ultimate post graduate degree of a man who Truly Lived.
