Obituary

John Andrew Kenagy, age 73, flew into the waiting arms of our Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 in San Antonio. He was born on December 12, 1949 in San Antonio, Texas to John Aubrey Kenagy and Jane Gidley Kenagy.

Andy grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. It was there that he met the love of his life, Janice Kay Langley. They were married in 1972 while he attended and graduated from Texas A&M University. He then began his career as an Air Force pilot. He was the pilot of B-52s and was stationed all over the US. The last assignment was at Randolph AFB, with pilot training.

After retirement in 2002, he began his second career of gardening. His huge garden was the pride of the family and he was always generous with the produce. He kept meticulous notes year to year about seed and taste quality to produce only the best the next year. The only other spot on this earth besides next to Janice, that Andy wanted to be was at Kirby Lake aka Wildman. He and Janice would call the ole gang from high school and they would bar-b-que on the dock. Some would fish and some would visit. Those days made the whole world right.

Andy had a strong faith and loved his family. We all are assured that he is in Heaven teaching God how to fly a plane or raise tomatoes. He was always quick with a joke or a story to make people laugh. He was a want-to-be stand-up comic. One more talent was baking, from squash casserole to chocolate chip cookies!

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jane Kenagy; aunt Marjory Jansen and cousin Wendel Jansen. Andy is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janice Kenagy; sister-in-law JoAnn Sawyer, Florida; sister Kathy (Tony) Perales; nephews Tony Perales Jr. (Trina); Greg (Adriana) Perales; Mark (Becky) Perales; cousin Juliana Behe; numerous loving cousins; and grand nieces and nephews.
